£0.00

Immerse yourself in the world of original and exquisite Design at Timeless Art, where each piece is carefully selected for its unique charm and elegance.

Pieter Engels; a magician amongst artists or a longer without a claque.

This restored chair (herstelde stoel) is an unique piece made by the extraordinary Dutch artist, Pieter Engels made in the 60's. Engels pushed the boundaries of absurd thinking between Art and Products.

In 1964, Engels began the company EPO: Engels Products Organization. EPO produced products, not works of art. Pieter Engels presented himself not as an artist, but as a director. He also had an alter ego: Simon Es. Who acted as a sales promoter and publicity mastermind.

During his time at EPO, Engels smashed various pieces of furniture to pieces only to reassemble them using hinges, causing the piece to lose its functionality. With this intervention, Engels plays with the boundary between art and utilitarian object, between the familiar and the alienating while using irony to criticize the market forces of art. Despite his well-known working method and his many exhibits all around the country, this piece is unique. This is because outside of a private collection, it has never been exhibited in public.
