Arne Hovmand Olsen Wooden Sideboard for Mogens Kold, Denmark, circa 1960

This exceptional long mid-century dressoir was designed by Arne Hovmand-Olsen for Mogens Kold Møbelfabrik, Denmark, circa 1960. Featuring four curved doors with symmetrical wood grain, recessed elliptical handles, three shelves, four green-felt-lined drawers and six square legs, it is a sophisticated example of Danish Modern design. The finished oak back allows the piece to function beautifully as a room divider, while the manufacturer’s stamp on the underside adds to its authenticity and collectible appeal.

Arne Hovmand-Olsen was born in Denmark in 1919 and developed an early talent for drawing and design. After training as a cabinetmaker, he studied furniture design in Århus and established his own design studio. His work became known for its clean lines, organic curves, elegant proportions and beautifully selected woods.

Hovmand-Olsen collaborated with a number of respected Danish furniture manufacturers, including Mogens Kold Møbelfabrik. Among his best-known designs are the Model 175 chair from 1955 and the Model 240 armchair for Mogens Kold from 1958.
