Giorgio Rastelli (born in 1940 in Milan) is an Italian sculptor renowned for his colorful and playful sculptures. After studying at the Brera Academy, he developed a distinctive artistic language in which nature, imagination, and movement play a central role.
In 1978, works from his Safari Series were exhibited in a gallery in Milan. Among this series is the sculptural ensemble “Adam and Eve Under the Palm Tree.” In this work, Rastelli combines the biblical story of Adam and Eve with an exotic natural element: the palm tree. The artist gives this classical theme a playful and contemporary interpretation, characteristic of his Safari Series, where humans, animals, and nature come together in colorful and expressive forms.
The sculpture consists of separate elements. The Adam and Eve figure group measures 63 cm in width, 185 cm in height, and 25 cm in depth. The accompanying palm tree measures 145 cm in width, 237 cm in height, and 50 cm in depth. Together, they form an impressive installation in which the towering palm tree enhances the paradisiacal atmosphere and places the human figures in a dynamic relationship with nature.
Rastelli gained international recognition through his monumental sculptures and public artworks. His works have been exhibited and are held in collections in places including Tokyo, Hannover, and various Italian museums. “Adam and Eve Under the Palm Tree” is an excellent example of his ability to combine storytelling, symbolism, and playful design into a single sculptural composition.
