In post-war Europe, when the world was rebuilding itself, a young Swedish designer named Kerstin Hörlin-Holmquist was crafting a new vision of comfort and beauty. Born into an artistic family in 1925, Kerstin’s early years were steeped in creativity. Her journey took her to England, where she immersed herself in the world of art history and fell in love with the soft sophistication of English upholstered furniture. Returning to Sweden, she studied at the prestigious Konstfack University, where her designs began turning heads.
Her breakthrough came when Elias Svedberg of Nordiska Kompaniet saw her work and invited her to join the NK Triva collection. Soon after, the Charlotta chair was born—a graceful, inviting design that resonated deeply with homes across Scandinavia and beyond. Over the decades, hundreds of thousands were sold, cementing Kerstin’s place in the history of Nordic design. Today, her work remains a symbol of understated elegance, a perfect balance of tradition and modernity.
